Lt. Cmdr. Arthur ``Jim'' Welton, U.S. Navy (ret.), 73, of the 2300 block of Windward Shore Drive, died May 25, 1996, in his home after a two-year illness.
Mr. Welton served his country for 28 years in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam as a naval aviator.
Upon his retirement in 1969 he owned and operated McCoy Motors auto repair shop for nine years. Mr. Welton was a native of Spokane, Wash., and had resided in Virginia Beach for the past 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, Anita M. Welton of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Bonita Welton Hoffman and her husband, Scott of Ellicott City, Md.; a son, Douglas J. Welton and his wife, Catherine of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; a stepson, Kevin B. Sanderlin and his wife, April of Suffolk; a stepdaughter, Jodi P. Sanderlin of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Rhoades of Spokane and Carol Chryst of Renton, Wash.; a brother, Robert Welton of Mead, Wash.; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and all who loved him.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday May 28, 1996 at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. before the service. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
