After viewing my first Governor's School for the Arts musical, ``42nd Street,'' at the Wells Theater, I feel compelled to wholeheartedly express admiration for everyone involved with this production. What a magnificent opportunity for high-school students interested in the performing arts. The production was evidence that the GSA is an excellent preparatory for those students pursuing college, whether the performing arts become their vocation or avocation.
The opening-night exuberance was contagious and reminded me of those special moments on stage during my high-school years, where dreams, fantasy and reality magically merged. For the most part, 20 years later that magic still continues, whether it be performing myself or experiencing an exciting production such as this.
Hampton Roads should be proud and aware of the GSA and support it whenever the opportunity arises. Students can definitely benefit from our positive reinforcement. I certainly look forward eagerly to their next production.
