R. Jennings Hargrave, 88, a lifelong resident of Surry County, died Monday, May 27, 1996, at Waverly Health Care Center.
He was the son of the late Willie Peyton and Estelle Harvell Hargrave. He was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church in Wakefield and the Farmer's Hunt Club in Surry County. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Branch Hargrave; a son, R. Charles Hargrave and his wife, Jacqueline L. Hargrave of Richmond; three sisters, Annie H. Fuller of Newport News, Wilma H. Holland of Windsor, Hylah H. Clark of Wakefield; two brothers, Earl W. Hargrave, Jesse W. Hargrave, both of Wakefield; two granddaughters, Michelle H. Cummings, L. Monique Hargrave, both of Richmond; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis L. Cummings.
The funeral will be held at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, Thursday at 2 p.m. by the Revs. Randy Duncan and Russell Leonard. Burial will be in the Rocky Hock United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wakefield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
