Ruben E. Tillett Sr., 68, of the 1900 block of Elm Ave., died May 24, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
He was a native of Drewryville, Va., and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, LaRose P. Tillett of Norfolk; daughter, Sharon T. Hill of Norfolk, stepdaughter, Charlene Tillett of Norfolk; two sons, Ruben E. Tillett Jr. of Norfolk and Ronald Jones of Portsmouth; mother, Alice Tillett of Portsmouth; three sisters, Mamie Taylor and Jennie Johnson, both of Philadelphia, and Louise Shields of Portsmouth; two brothers, James Tillett and Perry Tillett, both of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Alvin Rooks in Corprew Funeral Home. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, with Military Honors. A viewing at the funeral home will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The family will be at 1911 Elm Ave., the home of his brother, James Tillett, and will assemble there at noon Friday for the funeral service.
