A delegation of Dare County officials plans to meet in the nation's capital today to make a pitch for federal aid to dredge Oregon Inlet and improve other Albemarle area waterways, and to replenish sand on the beaches of the Outer Banks.
County Commission Chairman R.V. ``Bobby'' Owens Jr. said Tuesday the group will meet with aides of U.S. Sen. Lauch Faircloth and Sen. Jesse Helms, and meet directly with U.S. Reps. Walter B. Jones Jr. and Howard Coble, Assistant Secretary of the Army Martin Lancaster and others.
The Dare delegation includes Owens, Commissioners Doug Langford and Shirley Hassell, and perhaps County Manager Terry Wheeler, County Planning Director Ray Sturza and North Carolina's new Oregon Inlet lobbyist Bob Peele.
The meetings will take place today and Thursday. The local officials will return to the area Friday morning. by CNB
