A Chesapeake man who led police on a pursuit from Norfolk into Chesapeake on Monday night was charged with several drug and traffic offenses, police spokesman Larry Hill said.
The pursuit started just before 7 p.m. when two Norfolk police officers saw what appeared to be drug activity near the corner of Stafford and Liberty streets, Hill said. When the officers approached the car, a late model Mazda RX-7, the driver sped off. The chase went through the Downtown Tunnel and onto Interstates 64 and 664.
The pursuit ended after the man lost control of the car near the Bowers Hill section of Chesapeake. The suspect, Gary J. Hurst, 22, hit two police cruisers and collided with a state police cruiser, Hill said.
Hurst, of the 1500 block of Wingfield Ave., was charged with one drug offense and and five traffic offenses.
Hurst suffered minor neck and back injuries, Hill said. The damage to the vehicles totalled about $3,800.
