FISHING FAIR; BUT WEEKEND SHOULD BE BETTER

Pier fishing was fairly productive Thursday for anglers who braved the chilly winds.

Kitty Hawk pier reported spot, sea mullet, a few bluefish and some small trout landed.

On Avalon pier fishing was slow during the morning with only a few croakers and Spanish mackerel taken. Small bottom and a few bluefish were caught during the afternoon.

Anglers on Nags Head pier landed gray trout, speckled trout, triggerfish and bluefish, including a 10 pounder, during the morning. A few sea mullet, pigfish and small bluefish were taken later in the day.

Jennette's pier reported slow fishing with small bottom fish, gray trout and a few Spanish mackerel landed.

Although anglers were scarce on Outer Banks pier a few spot, sea mullet, gray trout and an occasional bluefish were decked.

South of Oregon Inlet fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught a few small bottom fish off and on throughout the day.

Gusty winds kept action at a minimum on Avon pier. Anglers landed only a few small gray trout, bluefish and pigfish.

Fishing was also slow on Frisco pier with a few keeper flounder taken.

Surf fishing was very slow along the beach from Corolla to Buxton due to the weather.

Some sea mullet and flounder were landed from the surf south of Cape Point.

Surf fishermen reported little action from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore boat fishermen around Oregon Inlet landed a few pigfish, gray trout and tailor bluefish.

Striped bass action was good along the Manns Harbor bridge in Croatan Sound.

Offshore fishing was at a standstill at both Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Thursday due to gusty winds and rough seas.

The water temperature was 63 degrees Thursday at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 68 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.

Falling winds and warmer weather should result in good pier fishing along the Outer Banks over the weekend. by CNB
