Col. Robert Bolling Batte of the U.S. Army (Ret.), 89, died June 3, 1996. He was taken ill suddenly at Orchard Hall in Prince George where he lived with his daughter Frances.
Col. Batte was born in Norfolk to Samuel Bassett French Batte and Mary Campbell Jones Batte. His wife was the late Frances Harrison Drummond Batte. He was a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Richmond and a former member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he taught the Men's Bible Class.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Richmond, by the Rev. George Muir. A graveside service in Norfolk will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Macon Walton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace and Holy Trinity Outreach, 8 N. Laurel St., Richmond, Va. 23220, or the Virginia Historical Society. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge.
