Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters raised $1,053,769 during its annual telethon, broadcast Saturday and Sunday.
Nationally, the Children's Miracle Network Telethon raised more than $141 million for 161 participating hospitals.
Children's Hospital raised about $100,000 less during this year's telethon than it did last year.
``There's more competition now than ever before for the charity dollar,'' said Beth Duke, senior vice president of development and community relations. ``We are very pleased with breaking the million-dollar mark, based on the conditions business and individuals have faced in the past year.''
The money will be used to fund research, educational programs and equipment at the Norfolk hospital. by CNB
