A tip to Crime Solvers helped investigators make an arrest in connection with the June 3 bank robbery at Crestar Bank in the 600 block of Lynnhaven Parkway, police said.
On Wednesday, police arrested David Lee Winley, 45, of the 700 block of 16th St., and charged him with one count of armed robbery.
Police originally said they were looking for a suspect in the Crestar case and a similar robbery May 21 at the Virginia Beach Schools Credit Union. Police said they thought both robberies were committed by the same suspect. Winley has not been charged with the credit union robbery, police said, and an investigation is continuing.
Police said that in each robbery the suspect entered the building, approached a teller and presented a note demanding money. The suspect then left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
