Edwin Krampitz Jr.'s letter (May 13), wherein he lists several cogent reasons why we should increase the federal gasoline tax, is right on the money. But he left out a couple of other valid reasons to increase the tax now.
This country really needs the funds to repair the inventory of dangerously substandard roads and bridges, construct mass-transit systems, reduce the national debt and decrease our huge balance-of-payment deficits.
Additionally, the ubiquitous gasoline-powered vehicle is destroying our planet by being a major factor in raising Earth's temperature, polluting the atmosphere, and razing Earth's treasures such as the landmarks of Egypt, Greece, Rome, Venice. . . .
