CURRITUCK COUNTY:

ARMED ROBBERY, KIDNAPPING: A Virginia man and two teenagers arrested in the April armed robbery of Eagle Market grocery store in Moyock have yet to be extradicted, the Currituck County Sheriff's Department reported.

Dante Ashby, 32, of Chesapeake is being held in a Chesapeake city jail on numerous charges, including an armed robbery of a South Battlefield Blvd. convenience store and the rape of a female employee.

The Chesapeake incident is believed to have occurred three weeks after the April 4 robbery at the Moyock store on N.C. Route 168.

Ashby and a 16-year-old Chesapeake youth were charged with one count of armed robbery and four counts of second-degree kidnapping in Currituck County.

Another teen, 17, was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and four counts of second-degree kidnapping.

The two teens are being held at a detention center in Chesapeake and also have yet to be brought to Currituck County to face charges, said Susan Johnson, a sheriff's department spokeswoman.

Currituck County Sheriff's Department members involved in the investigation are Deputy Jimmie Spencer and Detective Mark Gray.

KILL DEVIL HILLS:

Dennis Wayne Horton, 28, was being held as of Friday at the Dare County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.

Police received a call around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday that described a man beating a woman in the street. In addition to the second-degree kidnapping and assault charges, Horton was arrested for misdeamenor breaking and entering.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Manteo.

Police were contacted by the manager of the unidentified business, and the contents are being analyzed. No other details were available by Friday.

Four carefully wrapped packages of cocaine washed up on Outer Banks beaches June 1 and 2 and were turned in by tourists to police in Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Kitty Hawk.
