CHARGE IN DOG ATTACK

An 18-year-old Portsmouth woman was charged with the attempted murder of a police officer after she allegedly ordered her pit bull to attack the officer, police spokeswoman Amber Whittaker said Tuesday.

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. Monday when police responded to the Amoco parking lot in the 3900 block of Twin Pines Road on a report that youths had released a dog to attack customers.

When an officer tried to talk with the suspect, the pit bull was released to attack, Whittaker said. During the attack, the officer shot the dog, who died at the scene.

Lastarr Renee Young, of the 3800 block of Town Point Road, was charged with attempted murder, resisting arrest and dog-at-large charges.
