Merrill M. Derring, 90, died June 12, 1996, at her home. She was a lifelong Peninsula resident.
She attended Harrisonburg State Teachers College, now James Madison University. She taught school in both Poquoson and Newport News public schools. In later years she was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eldridge H. Derring. She leaves to cherish her memories two children, a daughter, Peggy D. Lewis of Newport News and a son, Dr. Eldridge H. Derring Jr. and his wife, Travis, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Susan Casey, Richard H. Lewis and his wife, Vicki, all of Newport News, Dr. John Lewis of Chesapeake, and Eldridge H. Derring III of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Leigh Casey of Newport News.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel in Peninsula Memorial Park by Dr. William Lockwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. Floral arrangements may be sent to Peninsula Memorial Park.
Weymouth Funeral Home is in charge.
