3 U.S. OFFICIALS TO LEAD TALKS ON FOREIGN POLICY, MIDEAST PEACE

Three senior State Department officials will lead a series of public discussions Thursday on U.S. policy toward China, Mexico and the Mideast peace process.

The forum is one in a series of foreign-policy town meetings designed to increase public understanding of current world issues, encourage public engagement in policy-making and allow an exchange of views with officials who formulate and implement U.S. foreign policy.

The forum at the Norfolk Airport Hilton will be co-sponsored by the State Department and the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads.

The topics and guest speakers:

U.S. relations with Mexico, 3:30 p.m. Arturo Valenzuela, deputy assistant secretary of state, Bureau of Inter-American Affairs.

U.S. relations with China, 4:45 p.m. Kent Wiedemann, deputy assistant secretary of state, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

The Mideast peace process, 8 p.m. David Satterfield, director of Near East and South Asian affairs, National Security Council.

The program includes dinner at 7 p.m.

The cost is $30 for the entire program, including dinner ($15 for students); $20 for dinner and the Mideast discussion only; or $10 for the discussions only.
