Joseph Harry ``Hal'' Prentiss, 78, died June 17, 1996, in Virginia Beach.
A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Prentiss was a retired production manager of the Norfolk Naval Base at the Public Works Center. He was a past member of Baylake United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Also, he was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge (NU)106 and Bide-A-Wee Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Prentiss; a daughter, Carol P. Everett and her husband, O.L., of Virginia Beach; a son, Joseph H. ``Hal'' Prentiss Jr. and his wife, Marianne, of Hampton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a stepson, Robert S. Baker and his wife, Cynthia M., of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Amy Daniels. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
