Vernon A. ``Cute Daddy'' Thorne, 56, of the 1300 block of Elm Ave., died June 19, 1996, in Maryview Hospital.
He was a native of Portsmouth. He was a landscaper and supervisor for 34 years. He worked for the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. He was the widower of Emma Jane Thorne and attended Third Baptist Church in Portsmouth.
He is survived by two daughters, Vivian Washington and Esther Thorne, both of Portsmouth; two sons, Shawn Thorne and Maurice Thorne, both of Portsmouth; six sisters, Frances Deloatch, Phyllis Thomas, both of Portsmouth, Velma Bonney and Shirley Bunch, both of Chesapeake, Mary Wilson of Suffolk, and Catherine Thorne of Smithfield; four brothers, Otis Batten of Smithfield, John Thorne and Ernest Thorne, both of Chesapeake, and Clifton Thorne Jr. of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren; two aunts; three uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Jesus Church of Deliverance, 5246 Jones Lane, Chesapeake, with Elder Lagus McCoy presiding. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Thursday. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 1:30 p.m. Thursday for the procession to the church.
