Arthur William Hope Jr., 86, of the 800 block of First Colonial Road, died June 27, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mr. Hope was a native of Richmond, Va. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, J. Elizabeth Doxey Hope. Mr. Hope was the retired owner of A.W. Hope and Son Plumbing and Heating Contractors located in Ghent for over 60 years. Mr. Hope was past president of the National Association of Master Plumbers, as well as the Norfolk Business Men's Civitan Club, a life-time member of the Elks Lodge 38, the Moose Lodge, and The Norfolk Wesley Men's Bible Class. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Male Academy of Norfolk. Mr. Hope enjoyed playing the piano for friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth L. Hope Waterman and her husband Eddie; a son, Thomas Barker Hope Sr. and his wife Sally; three grandchildren, Bart Hope and his wife Martha, Wendy Hope Dempsey and her husband Tim, Angela Waterman Snyder and her husband Jay; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, are handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, 200 Koger Executive Center, Norfolk, Va., 23502.
