Pastel paintings by Debbie Hobbs, a Portsmouth native now living in Suffolk, will be featured in July at the Olde Towne Gallery Ltd. at the corner of High and Court streets.
A reception for Hobbs will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. July 7, one in a series of First Sunday openings at Downtown galleries. The show will continue through Aug. 2.
Hobbs attended the College of William and Mary and graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts. She put aside her art during the years she raised two children, then returned to creative work in 1991.
She began working in soft pastels under the instruction of Frances Beamon, then began teaching pastels at the Suffolk Museum.
Her work has been displayed at the Suffolk Museum, Paul D. Camp Community College, Wakefield Museum, Rawls Museum, Chesapeake Square Mall, Crittenden Gallery and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Monday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. by CNB
