Competing before the home folks on their home lanes brought the incentive that produced national championships for two local youth duckpin teams.
The Bowlarama Preps and the Bowlarama Juniors won titles in the 23rd annual AMF/Fair Lanes National Duckpin Youth Championships, held at Bowlarama.
The Bantam championship went to Bowling Academy of Rhode Island. Fair Lanes Westview of Southwestern, Md., captured the Major division.
The local championship teams comprised youngsters from Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
The Bowlarama Preps had a 3-game handicap of 2,022 for a 24-point edge over runner-up Town Hall Lanes of Rhode Island.
Bowlarama's team consisted of David Hooper, Mia Mitchell, Matthew Sheets, William Crook and Aimee Miller. Miller's 224 scratch series paced Bowlarama.
Molly Clemons, Jennifer Dollar, Theresa Meador, Bobby Coley and Shawn Meador were the members of the Bowlarama Juniors. The team had a handicap total of 2,149, led by a scratch 399 series by Shawn Meador.
