Marcella Sawyer Halstead, 79, of 1801 Baltic Ave., died Tuesday, July 2, 1996, at the Bayside Health Center of Virginia Beach. She was a native of Spot, N.C.
Ms. Halstead was employed by the Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, for the past 11 years as hostess and receptionist. As an employee, she fulfilled her obligations and responsibilities with dignity and diligence, yet displayed a natural charm toward all with whom she came in contact.
Ms. Halstead is survived by her daughter, Marcia H. Walker of Virginia Beach, as well as by her son, Troy W. Halstead, also of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by two sisters, Gertha Blount of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Cornell Dzwonek of Spot; and by six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday, July 5, 1996, at 2:30 p.m. in the Princess Anne Memorial Park Cemetery, by the Rev. Richard J. Yates. The family will be at the Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, to receive friends today between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., and at other times at the home of her daughter, 505 Eastgate Court, Virginia Beach.
