Edward Monroe Baker, 72, of Lankford Highway, died July 4, 1996, in N.A.M. Hospital, Nassawadox, Va.
Mr. Baker, the son of the late Edward Thomas Baker and Gertrude Parks Baker, was born in Parksley. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was past master of Parksley Masonic Lodge (NU)325 AF & AM, and a member of Khedive Temple and Portsmouth Scottish Rite. He was a former board member of Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee and the Association for Retarded Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie H. Baker; two daughters, Nancy Baker Dix of Nelsonia, Va., Gina Baker Grier of Salisbury, Md.; a brother, Thomas Bates Baker of Parksley; four grandchildren, Thomas Byrd Dix III, Edward Baker Dix, Abigail Baker Grier, and Lesley Hall Grier.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Donald K. Roberts in Zion Baptist Church, Parksley. Burial will be in Parksley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. A.P. Wessells, P.O. Box 98, Accomac, Va. 23301. Arrangements are by Thornton Funeral Home, Parksley.
