The state Department of Education requires the School Board to appoint a parent-advisory committee to give the district's special education department advice on parental and community concerns.
Several board members raised concerns that parents from the Deep Creek area weren't represented. School administrators said they are continuing to look for representatives from that area of the city.

The School Board approved guidance and counseling regulations, as well as the annual notification form now required to inform parents of counseling services.
Board members also approved a consent form that gives parents the option of keeping their children out of small-group or individual counseling.
Under the regulations, parental consent is required for ongoing or group counseling but not required for short duration counseling ``which is needed to maintain order . . . or to assist a child in crisis.'' Test results
A review of third-grade Iowa Tests of Basic Skills scores for 18 schools shows an improvement in achievement rates.
The standardized exam measures basic skills in vocabulary, reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
With an error measure of plus or minus two points, composite - or overall - ITBS scores improved in 13 schools, remained the same in four and decreased in one.
On the Literacy Passport Test, the percentage of city sixth-graders who passed all three parts of that test on the first try jumped to 69 percent this year, up from 62 percent in 1995. All schools reported improvements, with Camelot Elementary posting an LPT pass rate 21.6 percentage points higher than its spring 1995 rate.
The LPT, first given in the sixth grade, gauges how well kids have mastered basic reading, writing and math skills.
Students must pass the LPT to receive a high school diploma.
