In reading the recent article and subsequent editorial regarding the newly formed GRADS program at Oscar Smith High School, it was mentioned that both Portsmouth and Suffolk public schools offered similar programs.
I was very fortunate to have taught with Burdie Burton while at Wilson High School, and currently teach with Janice Writtenberry at Lakeland High School. Both are wonderful assets to the GRADS programs in their respective school divisions. These ladies are positive role models to the young men and women who seek their advice or enter their programs, and they are a credit to the teaching profession.
