In answer to your question, ``Does this woman annoy you?'' (MetroNews, June 19): No. However, I am greatly annoyed by your reporter's derisive verbal sneer at Norma Reyes. Not only did the article scoff at her activism in People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals; it also managed to mock her ethnicity, her decorating and her less-than-perfect English. This shameful level of ``journalism'' is not worthy of your paper.
Any individual, family or organization working on any level to combat the cancer of violence that is consuming our culture deserves our respect and support.
Despite your implication that Mrs. Reyes and her family are not ``average'' (read ``normal''), I believe that our world would be a better place if there were more people like them.
The last thing our community needs is a press that encourages mindless intolerance of compassion. If PETA and its volunteers should themselves become the victims of violence, The Virginian-Pilot must accept its share of the responsibility for fostering it.
