ARCHITECTURE
Stephen Mallari and Nayana N. Mawilmada have joined Glenn & Sadler in Norfolk as architect interns. Mallari was formerly an intern with Williams-Tazewell in Norfolk. Mawilmada was previously an architectural consultant for Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, Calif.
EDUCATION
John R. Broderick was named acting vice president for institutional advancement at Old Dominion University. He will oversee the offices of Development, Alumni Relations, University Relations, Publications, Events and Copying Services. He was previously associate vice president for institutional advancement and was also director of university relations for the university.
ENGINEERING
Larry A. Thompson was named a project manager in the architecture department at Bondurant Associates Engineering & Architecture in Portsmouth. He was previously a project manager at Campostella Builders, Norfolk.
Also, Paul S. Moose was named a design engineer in the company's structural engineering department. He will be responsible for the design of structural building systems for the firm's commercial retail projects. He is a 1995 graduate of Old Dominion University.
GOVERNMENT
Jeffrey E. Luckman of Newport News was appointed by Gov. George Allen to the Virginia Pork Industry Board. He is the vice president for livestock procurement at Smithfield Foods Inc. He will succeed Timothy Tucker.
Also, Governor Allen appointed Melvin L. Harrell of Virginia Beach to serve on the Virginia Board of Forestry. Harrell is president of Atlantic Wood Corp. in Virginia Beach, a company specializing in export of high grade forest products from the Southeastern U.S.
HEALTH CARE
Dr. P. Preston Reynolds was named vice chairman of the department of internal medicine and chief of the division of general internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She comes to EVMS from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was an assistant professor of medicine and a senior fellow in the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics.
Dr. Wayne T. Fuller, Dr. Ellen R. Mahon, Dr. Arlene Palting and Dr. Maria Cristina J. Salumbides, all family practice physicians, are practicing at different Sentara Health Care Centers. Fuller, Mahon and Salumbides are now practicing at the Sentara Health Care Center, Chimney Hill. Fuller previously practiced at Sentara Health Care Center, Bayside. He is also an affiliated faculty member of the clinical faculty for the Department of Family Medicine, Eastern Virginia Medical School. Mahon and Salumbides formerly practiced at the health care facility's Salem location. Palting is now practicing at the Sentara Health Care Center, Chesapeake. She formerly practiced at the Chimney Hill location.
LAW
Sherri M. Mearns was named an associate at Mays & Valentine in Virginia Beach. She joins the corporate, tax and securities practice group and will concentrate in general corporate and health law. She received her bachelor's and law degrees from the College of William and Mary and master's degree from the University of Virginia.
Pamela C. Klavenski was named director of management and marketing at Payne, Gates, Farthing & Radd in Norfolk. She was formerly with the firms of Anderson & Winslow and Anderson, Norris & Geroe, both in Virginia Beach.
CONSTRUCTION
Michael H. Hodges Sr. was named project manager for Abante Corp. in Norfolk. Prior to this, he was with CBC Enterprises Inc. in Norfolk and Independence Construction in Virginia Beach.
MUNICIPALITIES
George W. Pratt was named executive director for the Norfolk Community Services Board. He joined the board in 1986 as quality assurance manager in Mental Health Services and assumed additional duties as acting director of Substance Abuse Services in 1988. In 1990, he became director of Mental Health Services.
