Rachel Rene Hodges, 40, of the 900 block of Lincoln St., died July 5, 1996, in Troy, N.C.
Born in Norfolk, she was an office services specialist for Old Dominion University and was employed there for 12 years. She was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church of God in Norfolk, Ruth Tent (NU)8, and United Order of Tents. She did volunteer service work for Habitat for Humanity.
She is survived by her husband, Horace Hodges III of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Rachelle Hodges of Portsmouth; a son, Horace Hodges Jr. of Portsmouth; parents, Leanna Barringer and Clay Barringer, both of Portsmouth; two sisters, Lisa Jarrett of Newport News and Marcia Barringer of Maryland; three brothers, Bobby Barringer of Maryland, Andrian Barringer of Portsmouth and Cecil Joyner of New York City; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends; a brother-in-law, George Jarrett; and a special friend, Vanessa Lee.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Ernestine Barton in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at noon today. Tent burial rites will be held at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and the family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today. The family will be at 1400 Quiet Court, Portsmouth, and at 906 Lincoln St., Portsmouth, where they will assemble for the funeral service. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
