Walter Edward Vann Sr., 81, of the 4000 block of Carolina Road, died July 9, 1996, in his residence.
He was born in Corapeake, N.C., and was a retired farmer. He was the son of late Willie and Iona Brinkley Vann.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Bundy Vann of Suffolk; three daughters, Margie V. Price of Portsmouth, Nellie V. Byrum of Suffolk and Betty V. Stallings of Belvedere, N.C.; four sons, Walter E. Vann Jr., James E. Vann Sr., Bobby R. Vann and Roger L. Vann, all of Suffolk; a sister, Allie V. Bundy of Corapeake, a half-sister, Dorothy Ann Rawls of Suffolk, a half-brother, Willie Clyde Vann of Suffolk; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Joe P. Vann.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Cameron Currin in Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the residence today from 6 to 8 p.m. Hill Funeral Home is in charge.
