Richard Earl Morris, 70, of 105 NC 45 North, died Wednesday July 10, 1996, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
He was a native of Bertie County, a member of Capehart's Baptist Church, the Boilermakers Union and the Association of Retarded Citizens of the Peninsula. Mr. Morris was a member and assistant fire chief of the Merry Hill-Mid Way Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Thomas Morris; a son, Richard Thomas Morris of Woodstock, Ga.; his mother, Faye Jernigan Morris of Ahoskie, N.C.; seven sisters, Syble Mitchell, Lois Lassiter and Marie Harrell, all of Ahoskie, Margie Liverman of Aulander, N.C., Barbara Perry of Lewiston, N.C., Edna Matthews of Colerain, N.C., and Sylvia Macon of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Walter Morris of Newport News and Staley Morris of Melbourne, Fla.; and a grandson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merry Hill-Mid Way Fire Department, Merry Hill 27957. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Capehart's Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
