John S. Wason, 78, former U.S. Army captain, died July 7, 1996 at Southwood Community Hospital, in Norfolk, Mass. Born in Port Chester, N.Y., son of the late Joseph T. and Gertrude (Black) Wason, he lived previously in Evansville, Ind. and Stamford, Ct. Mr. Wason was retired in 1982 as a project manager with F.D. Rich Corporation in Stamford.
Mr. Wason was preceded in death by his former wife, the late Lois (Miller) Wason, of Evansville, Ind., his sister, Elsie Celette, and his brother the late Joseph W. Wason.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella (Smith) Wason; two sons, John R. and his wife Joanne Wason of Norfolk, Mass., and James K. and his wife Eilene Wason of Topeka, Kan.; one daughter, Linda D. Conetta and Ira Tucker of Millis, Mass.; two sisters, Ruth Ellis of Tamarak, Fla., Helen Daly of Tempe, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 15, at 2 p.m., at Westminster-Canterbury on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. Burial was held in Alexander Memorial Park, Evansville, Ind. There will be no visiting hours. If desired, floral tributes may be sent to Westminster-Canterbury. Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Services, 90 Curve St., Millis, Mass., 02054, is handling arrangements.
