PAUL J. BURCHETT SR.

Paul Jones Burchett Sr., 73, of 206 March Drive, died July 13, 1996, in his residence.

Mr. Burchett was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and was the widower of Ruth R. Burchett. He retired as a storekeeper from the Naval Air Station. He was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church, Suffolk. He was pastmaster and member of Suffolk Masonic Lodge (NU)30; member of Scottish Rites; Khedive Temple; Suffolk Shrine Club; Sinai Chapter (NU)18; Order of the Eastern Star; Suffolk Elk Lodge (NU)685; and V.F.W. Post (NU)2582. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his father, John Earl Burchett and a brother, William C. Burchett.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol B. Cowan of Suffolk; a son, retired Col. Paul J. Burchett Jr., D.D.S., Columbia, S.C.; his mother, Irvy Jones Burchett of Suffolk; three sisters, Virginia B. Tackett of Prestonburg, Ky., Jane B. Wommack of Suffolk and Betty B. Almarode of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, John Earl Burchett of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Patton E. Burchett and Susan R. Burchett, both of Columbia, S.C.

The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. George Close and the Rev. E. Eugene Jones in Oxford United Methodist Church, Suffolk. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Hill Funeral Home is in charge. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Hill Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
