GOVERNMENT
William A. Sorrentino Jr. was named chief of construction-operations division at the Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District. In this position, he will manage the district's largest division which includes operations, maintenance, and emergency management. He will also oversee a statewide regulatory program that monitors activities in the state's waterways and wetlands, and exercises staff supervision of a diverse military and civil construction program. He was formerly chief of construction branch and deputy chief of construction-operations division, both with the Norfolk District.
MEDIA
Jill Anglin was appointed financial analyst and accountant at Max Media in Virginia Beach. She will be responsible for corporate reporting and evaluating property acquisitions. She previously worked in the financial reporting department of International Family Entertainment Inc. in Virginia Beach and as a staff accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick in Norfolk.
HEALTH CARE
Dr. David Patton has joined the Tidewater Perinatal Center, an affiliate of Virginia Beach General Hospital, as a perinatologist. Prior to this, he worked at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco where he developed an active and widely respected prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy program.
ENGINEERING
Joseph A. Beck was appointed secretary/treasurer and named chief of the surveying and design drafting units at Beck Associates in Norfolk. He has been with the firm since 1982 and has worked in all facets of the firm's business.
Adam T. Phillips was named project manager and David Powers was named project engineer at Patton Harris Rust & Associates in Virginia Beach. Phillips was previously with James McGovern Associates in Charlotte, N.C., and Powers was previously with the firm's home office in Fairfax
Also, Frederick V. Watkins Jr. and David C. Jackson were named stockholders of the firm. Watkins is director of engineering and Jackson is a senior project manager in the Virginia Beach office.
LAW
Jonathan R. Pawlow was named of counsel with Kaufman & Canoles in Norfolk. He will specialize in environmental law. He was a former associate of the New York firm of Chadbourne & Parke in its Washington office.
WHOLESALE
Also, Michael G. MacFarlane was named corporate pricing manager at Noland Company. He will be responsible for assisting Noland branches with pricing practices and strategies. He was previously a general manager for Aire Hosiery Inc., a hosiery wholesaler in Orlando, Fla.
And, Thomas C. Patterson has joined the wholesaler as showroom merchandising manager. He will coordinate promotional programs and training efforts, as well as work with the design and display of products. He most recently worked as vice president and divisional merchandise manager for Home Quarters Warehouse.
Noland Company in Newport News has filled three new positions in its corporate marketing division. Tim H. Francis was named manager of telecommunications at Noland. He will be responsible for overseeing the upgrading and improvement of the company's communication's network. Before joining Noland, he worked for Thorne Americas in Wichita, Kan.
MORTGAGES
Anna Beltran was named a partner at Virginia Co-operative Mortgage in Virginia Beach. She is currently director of sales and will continue to have that position. She will be responsible for long term planning, advertising and supervision of loan officers.
Frederick V. Remacle was promoted to assistant vice president and senior loan officer at Beach Fed Mortgage Corp., a subsidiary of Virginia Beach Federal Savings Bank. He was previously a loan officer for the company.
SERVICE
William Turner was promoted to senior vice president of Tune Up Plus for operations in Virginia. He will be responsible for sales and development for 11 area locations. He was formerly area supervisor for the company.
