VIRGINIA BEACH - Edith R. Porter, 79, of the Glenwood section of Virginia Beach, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died July 13, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Mrs. Porter, born in Millsboro, Del., was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and a Sunday School teacher for 15 years at Calvary United Methodist Church. One of 11 children, she was a family historian, telling anecdotes of her life as a child on the farm in Delaware.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wilson H. Porter; a daughter, Sharleen and husband Skip Scribner of Virginia Beach; a grandson, Trevor Scribner of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, Del., by Pastor Danny J. Kesner of St. Andrews U.M. Church. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. July 21 in St. Andrews U.M. Church, Virginia Beach.
