The Rev. John H. Johnson, 86, of the 300 block of E. Chickasaw Road, died July 13, 1996, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Johnson was born in Sullivan County, Va., and was the widower of Etoile Johnson. He was a retired Baptist minister. He was the former pastor of Providence Baptist Church, Shady Valley Baptist and Victory Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was a well-known evangelist in the Tidewater area and organized the Serviceman's Ministry at Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Sue Ballance of Jackson, Mich., Johnnie Janett Steinman of Chesapeake, Edith Patterson English and Sharron Kathleen Porter of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Bess Kile of Groveland, Fla., Evelyn Smithson of Norfolk, Alda Hall of Reno, Nevada, and Kathleen Ringley of Love, Tenn.; a brother, James G. Johnson of Norfolk; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today by the Rev. Ronald R. Harrison, the Rev. Daniel Lee Steinman and the Rev. Ted James in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 308 N. Centerville Turnpike, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
