Edith Alexander Owens, 89, formerly of 417 Elliott St., died Monday morning, July 15, 1996, in Brian Care Center of Hertford.
A native of Tyrrell County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Alexander and Martha O. Alexander and the widow of William Charles Owens. She retired after 52 years as a spinner/machine operator with Edenton Cotton Mills and was a member of First Christian Church and its Christian Daughters Missionary Circle.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Junius (Legion) Britton of Edenton; two sons, Edd Lee Owens of Edenton and Tommy Owens of Hopewell, Va.; two sisters, Martha Ashley and Violet Alexander, both of Edenton; a brother, the Rev. E.C. Alexander of Edenton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, with the Rev. Thomas Biggs and the Rev. E.C. Alexander officiating. The family will meet at the home of Junius and Legion Britton, 105 Douglas Ave., Edenton. Swindell Funeral Home in Hertford is in charge of arrangements.
