Pier fishing along the northern beach area was fairly good Friday morning on the rising tide, but it was slow in the afternoon.
Kitty Hawk Pier anglers caught spot, small croaker and a few trout, mostly before noon.
Fishermen on Avalon Pier landed good numbers of small bluefish, spot, croaker, sea mullet and small gray trout during the morning. A few bottom fish were landed throughout the afternoon.
A few gray trout were landed on Nags Head Pier during most of the morning along with a mixture of bottom fish. Afternoon fishing was slow.
Jennette's Pier reported a good run of spot during the morning but little action in the afternoon.
Lots of pigfish, small gray trout, some croaker and spot were landed on the Outer Banks Pier before high tide. Scattered, small bottom fish were taken all afternoon.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported a few bluefish and Spanish mackerel landed early in the morning. A few bottom fish were taken during the remainder of the day.
Rainy weather kept morning fishing to a minimum on Avon Pier, but some bottom fish were taken in the afternoon.
Scattered sea mullet, black drum, small flounder and a few nice gray trout were caught by Frisco Pier fishermen.
Small bottom fish, a few bluefish and several pompano were landed by surf fishermen along the northern beaches.
Croaker, sheepshead, a few gray trout and tailor bluefish were landed from the north and south sides of Oregon Inlet.
A few bottom fish were beached by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.
Nice Spanish mackerel and tailor blues were landed at Cape Point Thursday evening and Friday morning. A few puppy drum also were taken. Some croaker and flounder were landed Friday.
Small bluefish were taken on cut bait in the surf at Hatteras Island. A few flounder and scattered bluefish were landed from Frisco to False Point.
Plenty of small bluefish and a few Spanish mackerel were taken by boats trolling in the Oregon Inlet area. Fair catches of croaker were reported by headboats around the inlet.
Charters off Oregon Inlet caught scattered yellowfin tuna, fair numbers of dolphin and a few wahoo. Billfish releases included a blue marlin and a white marlin by the Capt. B.C., a white marlin by the Miss Boo and a sailfish by the Smoker.
The Hatteras fleet landed fair numbers of 40- to 50-pound yellowfin tuna and a few dolphin. A sailfish was released by the Release.
The water temperature was 69.5 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
