Ethel Coleman Nickerson, 90, died July 27, 1996, in Sentara Nursing Center, Norfolk, where she resided for the past seven years.
She was the widow of Elmo S. Nickerson. Mrs. Nickerson, a homemaker, was a member of St. Columbo Presbyterian Church and Coleman Place Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, June Linton Crockett and her husband, Malcolm K., of Virginia Beach, Dorothy N. Gedmin and her husband, Victor, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Leigh Linton Smit and her husband, Ray, John Scott Linton, Lynn Linton Diggs and her husband, Billy, Timothy C. Gedmin, Jeff Gedmin and his wife, Jeanna, William A. Nickerson Jr. and his wife, Janice, Sandra N. Rochevot and her husband, Frank, and Judy N. Owens; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a nephew, Keith Nix; two nieces, Ann McCann and Gayle Armstrong; a loving daughter-in-law, Claudia A. Nickerson; and a lifelong friend, Daisy Cunningham McClannan. She was predeceased by a son, William A. Nickerson Sr.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 1996, in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. John R. DeCarmo. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to any children's charity or organization of choice.
