Your editorial ``The CDC and the NRA'' (July 21) is based on false information. Money is not the reason Congress is proposing to cut off funds for the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Injury Prevention. The reason is the CDC is using taxpayers' money to produce propaganda that would make Adolf Hitler proud. Repeatedly, honest, competent researchers and scholars have shown CDC ``studies'' to be an abuse of scholarship, inventing, selecting or misinterpreting data to support gun-control concepts that cannot be supported through honest research.
Professor Gary Klech, of the Florida State University School of Criminology, and other honest scholars have reviewed CDC ``studies'' and stated that the distorted research ``findings'' should not see the light of day. Kleck's research findings clearly establish that law-abiding American citizens use firearms 2.5 million times a year to defend their lives.
It is the CDC and your newspaper that are trying to put the country's head in the sand through biased and distorted research and editorials. How can it be reasonable to prevent law-abiding citizens from carrying self-defense equipment required to stay alive?
