BBB TO RELOCATE NEAR NORFOLK'S WARDS CORNER

The Better Business Bureau of Hampton Roads will be relocating to new quarters in mid-August.

The BBB said its offices on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk are scheduled to be demolished and new structures will be built. The buildings were sold to a shopping center developer.

The new offices will be at 586 Virginian Drive, off Thole Street near the Wards Corner area of Norfolk. The new telephone number will be 531-1300.

Lynnhaven Mall said will add new stores this fall. Plans for a Gap Kids, Rack Room Shoe Store, Zap Electronics and San Francisco Music Box are under way.

Haverty's Furniture has teamed with Lowe's Companies Inc. and Southern Living magazine to furnish the interiors of the 1996 Show Homes. One of the 15 furnished show homes being built around the South will be located in Linkhorn Oaks at the Old Oak Hill Farm subdivision in Virginia Beach.

While the local Show Home's interiors will be furnished by Haverty's, it will be constructed entirely from products purchased at Lowe's.

The Show Home will be open Oct. 12 through Dec. 1. The $2 admission fee to tour the home will be given to a local charity.

Noland Co. in Newport News has acquired Davis & Co. in Norfolk as its advertising agency of record. Noland, a wholesale distributor of mechanical equipment and supplies, operates 99 branches in 15 states. Noland was previously a client of AMC, a Richmond-based advertising and marketing firm.

Smith Demer Normann in Hampton has streamlined its name and introduced a new corporate logo. The 10-year old engineering, land planning and surveying design firm will operate as SDN.

Rhonda L. Burton, publisher of The Women's Yellow Pages Business & Resource Directory, received recognition as the outstanding premiere edition on a national level by the National Association of The Women's Yellow Pages for 1996.

The first 108-page edition was published in February with a distribution of 15,000.

Burton was appointed secretary for the national association for the 1996-97 year.

LaDonna J. Wade, vice president/human resources with the Daily Press, was recognized with the John D. Blodger Award by the Newspaper Personnel Relations Association for diversity initiatives in the workplace.

Wade has instituted a series of valuing diversity seminars and roundtable discussions in which employees meet monthly to share beliefs and values.

Nation's Business, published by U.S. Chamber of Commerce, reports an annual conference for women in business will be held Sept. 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Navy Pier in Chicago. Sponsored by the Women's Business Development Center, a nonprofit group based in Chicago, the conference will include a buyers mart and panel discussions on business issues.
