WEEKEND FISHING

While bluefin tuna continued to provide exciting times for Virginia's offshore fishing set in recent days, flounder and cobia shared the inshore spotlight.

Flounder, in particular, have been making a strong showing in the lower Chesapeake Bay, including inside Lynnhaven Inlet at Virginia Beach.

Perhaps the week's outstanding catch was a 167 1/2-pound yellowfin tuna boated southeast of Rudee Inlet by C.J. Fayton of Virginia Beach, fishing on the C-Scape. It's one of Virginia's all-time heavyweight yellowfins.

As for cobia, the weekend's reported lunker was a 70 1/2-pounder boated near the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel by Michael A. Galano of Norfolk.

Elsewhere, largemouth bass made a good showing Sunday. At Lake Burnt Mills in Suffolk, an unidentified angler weighed in a 10 1/2-pounder.
