Alyce Joyce Wetherington McGinnis, 70, passed away on July 22, 1996. She was the daughter of the late Linwood F. ``Red'' and Alice Jackson Wetherington.
Born in New Bern, N.C., and a former member of Broad Street Christian Church there, Mrs. McGinnis traveled extensively as a Navy wife before settling in New Jersey almost 30 years ago. She moved to Chesapeake, Va., last year. Mrs. McGinnis was a licensed real estate agent with Gold Key, and Parker and Dudas Real Estate agencies in Northfield for several years and was a former employee of Prudential Life Insurance Company in New Jersey. Mrs. McGinnis was a past president of Crescent Temple Legion Ladies, member of the Northfield Library Board, member of the N.A.F.E.C. Woman's Club and served on the Miss New Jersey Scholarship Pageant Hostess Committee for over 10 years. She was also a former traveling companion to Miss New Jersey.
Preceded in death by her husband, S.G. McGinnis and their son, Michael, Mrs. McGinnis is survived by her daughter, Mary McGinnis of Margate, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Peggy McGinnis of Scullville, N.J.; daughter and son-in-law, Alyce and Stephen Lawrence of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Carrie Donley and her husband, John of Chesapeake, Sarah Lawrence of Richmond and Matthew Lawrence of Chesapeake; sisters, Helen Ruth Scott of New Bern, N.C., and Patricia Razzano of San Clemente, Calif.; stepmother, Dee Shea, also of San Clemente.
The funeral was held July 25, 1996 in Northfield, N.J. Interment was in Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona, N.J. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Lancaster Room at Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center in Suffolk. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. McGinnis may be made to the American Cancer Society or to: Alyce J. McGinnis Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Miss New Jersey Scholarship Foundation, P.O.
