I was saddened to read ``Region may become one of largest poultry ports in the nation'' (Business, July 16) regarding the recent initiative of the Port Authority to prepare Pier 3 at Norfolk International Terminals for a warehouse to store chicken parts.
After learning about the ways in which chickens suffer on factory farms, I became a vegetarian. I find it very disturbing that Norfolk has plans to play a large role in supporting these barbaric practices.
