Captain Charles Doty ``Spider'' Webb, USN ret., 76, died Aug. 2, 1996, in a local hospital.

A native of Inspiration, Ariz., Spider was a retired captain for the U.S. Navy, a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He graduated from the University of Arizona and became a naval aviator. During World War II, he served on carriers in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres and was awarded two distinguished Flying Cross, five Air Medals and a Purple Heart. During the Korean Conflict, Spider trained naval aviators. During Vietnam he flew transport planes for the Military Airlift Command.

He also worked 13 years for Virginia National Bank. And he was a member of Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel. Spider was a man who loved wildlife recreation and was devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lucine S. Webb; four sons, Pierre Webb and his wife, Joann of Fairfax, Va., Glenn T. Webb and his wife, Jill, of Glendale, Calif.; Craig Webb and his wife, Melinda, of Los Angeles, Calif., Brian Webb and his wife, Amy, of Afton, Va.; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel by Chaplain Fred Rothermel. Burial will be private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements.
