Phyllis Arlene Reichenthal Berkwit, 66, of the 100 block of Beverly Ave., died Aug. 4, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Berkwit was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Norfolk all of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Anna Herzog Reichenthal, her son, Noel R. Berkwit and her sister, Gertrude R. Behrman. She was a member of the B'Nai Israel Congregation in Norfolk. She was also a member of its sisterhood and the Hadassah. She attended Mary Washington College and the Norfolk division of the College of William and Mary.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Berkwit; a son, Richard Ira Berkwit of Norfolk; two sisters, Rose R. Jaffe and Hannah R. Porter, both of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in B'Nai Israel Cemetery by Rabbi Israel Bornstein. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
