As an employee in the literature department of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, I take exception to P.L. Smith's letter (July 31) implying that PETA fails to educate the public about spaying and neutering.
Each year, PETA mails out thousands of spay-and-neuter fact sheets and other information on companion-animal overpopulation. We also send out press releases to the media reminding people of the need to spay and neuter.
