MARY J. BOWLES

Mary Virginia James Bowles, 83, a lifelong resident of Wachapreague, died Aug. 4, 1996, in Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Bowles, the widow of Miles Grayson Bowles, was a former teacher in the Accomack County Schools. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Garrison James and Annie Prettyman Doughty James. She was a member of Powelton Presbyterian Church, Wachapreague.

Survivors include a nephew, Alfred E. James of Quinby; great-niece, Denise Polchinski of Peekskill, N.Y.; great-great-niece, Amy Polchinski of Peekskill; cousins, Robert James and Margaret Warren of Quinby.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. James R. Keezel in Wachapreague Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Powelton Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in care of Francis Dix, P.O. Box 268, Wachapreague, 23480, or to the Wachapreague Rescue Squad. Williams-Onancock Funeral Home is in charge.
