Goldie Brown Newsome, 88, of Early Station Road, died Aug. 6, 1996, in Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.
Mrs. Newsome was born in Powellsville, N.C., and was the loving wife of the late Lloyd I. Newsome until his death in 1959. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ahoskie, a lifetime member of the Red Cross, and served on the Roanoke Chowan Hospital Auxiliary. She was a past president of the Myrtle Swindell Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include four sons, Lloyd I. Newsome of Laurinburg, Jack M. Newsome and John L. Newsome, both of Ahoskie, Henry E. Newsome of Chesapeake; two sisters, Carrie P. Freeman of Colerain, Betty Lou Vann of Murfreesboro; a brother, John Henry Brown of Merry Hill; five grandchildren, Les Newsome of Laurinburg, Ronald Newsome of Aberdeen, N.C., Rhonda Newell of Laurinburg, Holli and Jamie Newsome of Ahoskie and two great-grandchildren, Kevin and Sue Ellen Newell of Laurinburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Wiggins Brown and Henry Brown of Powellsville.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Jim Evans and the Rev. Robert May. Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.
