SARAH C. WEST

Mrs. Sarah Chappell West, 75, of Albania St., died Tuesday Aug. 6, 1996, in the Brian Center in Hertford.

A native of Perquimans County, Mrs. West was a daughter of the late Sadie Mae Morris and John David ``Jinks'' Chappell and the wife of the late William ``Willie'' R. West Sr.

Mrs. West was a member of Edenton Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Adult Group, WMU and active in her Sunday School class. She had served many years as a volunteer at her church.

She is survived by two daughters, Estelle Stallings Dempsey of Austin, Texas, Frances West Jordan of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a son, the Rev. Gordon K. West of Sanford, N.C.; two stepsons, William R. ``Bill'' West Jr. of Dothan, Ala., Phillip C. West of Clovis, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, George David Chappell.

A funeral will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Evans Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Kenneth Word with burial following in the Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Evans Funeral Home Friday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times in the residence.
