BERTHA G. PERRY

Bertha Gregory Perry, 74, of Route 1, died Aug. 5, 1996, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

A native of Currituck County, N.C., she was a retired beautician. She was a past president of the Elizabeth City A.M.E. Zion District W.H.&O. Missionary Society, 1983 state president of the North Carolina Extension Homemakers, past secretary of the Currituck County branch of the NAACP and she held life membership. She was predeceased by her parents, Austin and Ada Barnard Gregory, and her husband, Joseph L. Perry.

Survivors include her loving sister, Mamie G. Hall of Jersey City, N.J.; devoted brother, James Dett Gregory Sr. of Moyock; three sisters-in-law, Mary L. Gregory, Vernice P. Shaw and Maude B. Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Lebanon A.M.E. Zion Church, Culpepper St., Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Robert Mullen and Rev. Ronald Butler officiating. Burial will be in Barnard Family Cemetery, Shawboro, N.C. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, and the family will be at the home of the deceased.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Parksville A.M.E. Zion Church, c/o J.D. Gregory Sr., Route 3, Box 259, Moyock, N.C. 27958.
