Lucile Eure Smith, 82, of Route 1, died Wednesday Aug. 7, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.
Mrs. Smith was born in Gates County. THe daughter of the late John R. Sr. and Mrs. Selma Lee Carter Eure, she was a homemaker and a member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Lance Hudson Smith Sr.
Surviving are two daughters, Emeline S. Umphlett of Gates and Mary Lou Bracy of Suffolk; two sons, Lance H. Smith Jr. of Lakeland, Ga., and John A. Smith Sr. of Gates; three sisters, Emma E. White of Gatesville, Ruby E. Copeland of Sunbury and Gladys E. Stallings of Hobbsville; three brothers, John R. Eure Jr., W.H. ``Bill'' Eure and Alvin C. Eure, all of Gatesville; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Buck. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the home of her daughter, Emeline Umphlett of Route 1, Gates.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad or to the Middle Swamp Baptist Church.
